The Process
Initial Appointment
Your first Occupational Therapy appointment is designed to help me understand the client as a whole — including their strengths, current challenges, daily routines and goals.
The initial appointment is provided as a 120-minute service, which includes:
60-minute consultation with the client, parent or caregiver, completed by video call, telephone or in person
30 minutes preparation to review relevant reports, background information and assessments
30 minutes after the appointment to complete clinical notes, develop the therapy plan and prepare any required resources
Where appropriate, questionnaires or assessments may also be completed during this stage.
For children, the parent or caregiver consultation can be completed separately so important background information can be discussed without affecting the positive therapeutic relationship being developed with the child.
Therapy Plan
Following the initial appointment, I will develop an individualised therapy plan based on the client’s needs, strengths and goals.
The plan will outline the main areas of focus and recommendations for therapy. A copy can be emailed to the client or family and, with consent, shared with relevant professionals.
Ongoing Therapy
Therapy sessions are tailored to the individual and may be provided at home, school, in the community, via telehealth or in another suitable setting.
Sessions focus on practical goals that support greater independence, confidence and participation in everyday life.
Review & Collaboration
Progress is reviewed regularly and therapy may be adjusted as needs and goals change.
Where appropriate and with consent, I can also collaborate with families, educators, support workers and other health professionals to help provide consistent support across environment
Travel
Travel may apply for home, school, workplace and community-based appointments.
Travel costs will be discussed with you before services commence and will be charged in accordance with the applicable service agreement and funding arrangements.
Non-Face-to-Face Services
Some Occupational Therapy services are completed outside of your scheduled appointment and may be billed in 10-minute increments, based on the time required.
This may include:
- Reviewing reports and assessments
- Therapy planning
- Resource development
- Report writing
- Clinical emails or phone consultations
- Liaising with other professionals
- Case conferences and stakeholder meetings
Where possible, you will be informed before additional billable work is completed.
